The golden cage is real. And it costs you more than you think.

Auditor gazing thoughtfully out of a large office window

There is a story that many auditors know but few tell out loud.

You earn well. Maybe very well. But every morning when you get up, it takes effort to go.

Not because the work is boring. Not because your colleagues aren't decent people. But because something fundamental is off. Your manager calling you out publicly. Promises that are never kept. The feeling that you are performing in a play daily.

Mask on. Circus music on. Fake, fake, fake.

And at home, you are the worst version of yourself.

But the cage has a golden rim. You can go on holiday 3 times a year. You drive a luxury lease car. You have prestige. And you just bought a larger house with a mortgage that chains you to that job.

Leaving therefore feels like a luxury problem. Who does that? Choosing job happiness when you have all of this?

But here is what I see daily in my work: the price of staying is higher than the price of leaving. Only that bill is harder to calculate. It's not on your pay slip. It is in your energy. In your relationships. In who you will be five years from now.

The question is not whether you can afford to leave. The question is whether you can afford to stay.

At Auditworks, we guide auditors standing at this crossroads. No obligations, without immediately pushing vacancies. We prefer starting by understanding what you actually want.

Sound familiar?

You don't have to break the cage open right away, but talking about what truly satisfies you helps.
